Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar has sent a note of warning to the general public that Daura traditional tittles are not for sale but for those who have made meaningful impact and sacrifices for the unity of the nation.
The revered Emir made the remark while conferring on the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amechi, Dan Amanar Daura (Trusted son of Daura) in his palace at Daura, Katsina State on Saturday.
Emir Faruk said: “I don’t give tittle because of money.
“The emirate doesn’t collect a dime from anyone before conferring traditional titles. Our tittle goes to those who have devoted their time and resources to the course of the poor in the society, as well as those who have contributed meaningfully to the development of Daura emirate.”
The revered Emir further said “only deserving persons that have proven their worth, whether they be black or white, rich or poor, are given traditional titles by the emirate.”
Emir Faruk also conferred on another APC Chieftain, Nasiru Haladu Danu, the title of Tafida Babba Daura at the event.
The event had high profile personalities from across the country in attendance.
Among them were: Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State, his deputy and Secretary to the state government, former Bauchi Governor, Isah Yuguda, the Oni of Ife, Oba Adewusi, Emir of Dutse, Erin Edet Ekong (Cross Rivers traditional Rulers Council), Abdullahi Lamido Sunusi (Magajin Garin Kano), State Minister of Education, State Minister of Health, Minister of Trade and Investment, Yusuf Tukur, among others.
Also present at the ceremony are those gunning for Amechi to run for President come 2023. Meanwhile, the transportation minister is yet to make his intention known concerning the race, but from his body language and pressure from his support base, he might eventually throw his heart into the ring.
