The Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Professor Onyemachi Ogbulu, has pledged his administration’s determination in the crusade against security challenges within the university community and its environs.
Ogbulu, who made the pledge while receiving the new Army Commanding Officer 143 Battalion, Ovim Isiukwuato, Lt. Col. Timothy Okundayo, at the weekend, expressed confidence that God will grant the officer and his men the wisdom and grace to restrategize and come up with new measures to tackle the security challenges of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other crimes within the area.
The VC applauded his predecessor, Lt. Col. Umar Abduallahi Iliyasu and also described the latter as a committed and gallant officer whose efforts in providing security within the University community yielded tremendous success.
In his response, the new Arm Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Okundayo, thanked the VC and management of the institution for the warm reception. He promised to build on the success of his predecessor and collaborate with other security agencies to increase surveillance within and around the university community.
Members of the university management and the Chief Security Officer were present at the meeting.
