Man arrested for conspiring with his wife to sell their two daughters for N700,000 in Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Nigeria Safety and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command have arrested a person for allegedly conniving along with his spouse to promote their two daughters aged 6 and 4 respectively.

 

The person, Elisha Effiong, who lives in Cameroon along with his spouse was arrested in Uyo on Monday,  November 15, via an intelligence report whereas attempting to promote their youngsters, recognized as Abasifreke Edet and Rachael Edet.

 

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Umana Ukeme, in an announcement on Wednesday November 23, mentioned the suspects confessed that they made the choice to promote their youngsters as a consequence of excessive hardship.

In line with the assertion, the suspect confided with a non-public safety guard of his plans whereas the guard, in flip, notified the commandant of the corps Mr. Abidemi Majekodunmi who instantly ordered the arrest of the perpetrator.

 

“The suspect, Elisha Edet Effiong, ‘M’ was apprehended along with his two youngsters recognized as Abasifreke Edet, 6, and Rachel Edet, 4, whereas making an attempt to promote them for M700, 000 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

 

“Effiong, 40 years was apprehended at FulCare Hospital alongside Ekpanya Road, the place he notified the safety guard of his intention to promote his two youngsters to repay his debt and meet different monetary challenges.

 

“The safety guard notified the NSCDC and instantly, Commandant Abidemi Majekodunmi detailed personnel of the anti-human trafficking unit of the corps who swung into motion and apprehended the suspect alongside along with his two daughters, ” the assertion learn partially.

In line with Ukeme, preliminary investigations have been concluded whereas the case can be transferred to NAPTIP zonal workplace, Uyo for the prosecution of the suspect.
