The Chinese language authorities has mentioned the controversy surrounding tennis star Peng Shuai has been “maliciously overrated”, its most direct response to the sexual assault scandal gripping the information waves .

 

Peng disappeared from the general public eye for nearly three weeks after making sexual assault allegations towards China’s former vice premier, triggering widespread worldwide concern.

Peng, 35, is considered one of China’s prime tennis gamers. In a 1,600-word put up on Chinese language social media platform Weibo earlier this month, she mentioned former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli – who’s 75 – had “pressured” her to have sexual relations with him.

“Even when it is simply hanging a stone with a pebble, or a moth attacking a flame and courting self destruction, I’ll inform the reality about you,” she wrote.

It was the primary time such an allegation had been made towards considered one of China’s senior political leaders.  Zhang has not responded to the allegations.

On Tuesday, November 23, China’s overseas ministry mentioned it was “not a diplomatic matter”.

“I consider you could have all seen that she not too long ago attended some public occasions and had a video name [with the president of the International Olympic Committee],” spokesman Zhao Lijian informed reporters.

“I believe some folks ought to cease intentionally and maliciously hyping [the issue] up, not to mention politicise this situation,” he mentioned.
