A portray by iconic Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo has offered in New York for a file $34.9m (£25m).


Kahlo’s portray “Diego y Yo” was considered one of her closing self-portraits.


The work depicts a tearful Kahlo together with her husband Rivera painted above her eyes.

The paintings auctioned at Sotheby’s public sale home is now formally the best value paid at public sale for a Latin American paintings.

The file had beforehand been set by a piece by Diego Rivera, whom Kahlo was in a relationship with for a decade.

Diego Rivera’s piece offered for $9.76m in 2018.


It was described by Sotheby’s on the public sale on Tuesday as “some of the necessary works by Kahlo ever to return to public sale”.

The client, Eduardo F. Cosantini, based a museum in Argentina, in line with the New York Instances.

Prior to now, the portray was final auctioned in 1990 for $1.4 million.

Kahlo, broadly considered one of many biggest painters of the twentieth Century, was famed for her intimate self-portraits reflecting ache and isolation.



She lived from 1907 to 1954 and proudly promoted indigenous Mexican tradition via her artwork.

Her artworks showcased her painful relationship together with her physique, disabled via childhood polio and extreme accidents following a bus accident.
