The Lagos State Police Command has disregarded and prosecuted one Seargent Eze Aiwansoba attached to the Special Protection Unit, Base 16, Ikeja, for shooting and trying to kill his female friend, Joy Ndubueze.
An announcement in the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that the incident occurred on October 8, 2020, in Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja of Lagos State.
“The incident had been known to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Lagos State Police Command for analysis where it was disclosed the ex-policeman includes a case to answer,” it added.
The announcement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, as ordering the coordinated area trial of the defendant where he had been found guilty and recommended for dismissal.
“The acceptance for his dismissal was included in a letter called PC. 458465/LS/DFA/2, dated 2nd February 2021.
“Following his dismissal, Ex-Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba, was moved into the State Criminal Investigation Department for prosecution through letter called AR:3100/LS/SPM/Vol.2/311 dated 3rd February 2021.
“The State CID had composed a letter to the Director of Public Prosecution, Lagos State, for legal guidance that was eventually answered, noting that the sergeant ought to be billed to court attempted Murder against Sec 230, Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
“The Ex-sergeant was billed to Magistrate Court, Yaba, on 9th February, 2021, together with tried Murder of Joy Ndubueze; and the situation remains on,” it added.
Odumosu assured the general public that no erring police staff could go unpunished as the control won’t condone any act of criminality and unprofessionalism in every area.
