Popular television presenter, Rachel Bakam, died yesterday after fighting with anaemia. Below are things that you don’t know about her.

She climbed up in Kaduna
Rachel Bakam was born and raised at Kaduna State where she’d her main, secondary, and tertiary schooling. She studied English and Theatre Arts at Ahmadu Bello University and Digital Filmmaking at New York Film Academy.

She worked as a salesgirl
Her dad died when she was 12 years old. At age 16, she began working as a salesgirl at a grocery store, afterwards in a recording studio.

She had been the best graduating student at the University
Rachel Bakam has been the best graduating female student and best graduating student of the Faculty of Arts in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Throughout her secondary school days in Kaduna Capital School, she had been President of the Literary and Debating Club and the Head Girl.

She had been an actress
Bakam played a direct part in the Hausa drama collection, Rayuwa.


She battled against human trafficking
Rachel Bakam is an anti-human trafficking ambassador. She combined the non-government associations — Devatop Centre for Africa Development in campaigning against sex trafficking and other forms of contemporary slavery in Nigeria.
Following the Southern Kaduna crisis, where lots of people were murdered, Rachel Bakam and John Fashanu united Big Church Foundation to encourage the sufferers with relief stuff.

She had been a TV presenter and manufacturer
She hosted on’Trends & Rachel’ a favourite television series that airs on several Nigerian tv channels. She also produced and introduced with her series, Rachel that the PIPER, and its own Hausa version ‘RACHEL MAI KAKAAKI’ a fun, yet exceptionally humanitarian tv programme.
